How to recruit to my MLM business

We have been running our Kleeneze MLM business since 1999 and have sponsored an average of about 50 new team members every year; consistently. We are often asked about how to recruit to my MLM business and this is what we want to touch on here.

First of all we should point out that by recruit we are referring to people that are typically investing £150 – £200 and are committing to working. We make this distinction to differentiate from the hype-mongers that say “I’ve been in my network for 10 minutes and already recruited two million people”  - when the reality is, if you click on their “link” and “sign-up” for free you too have been “recruited”.

Admittedly not everyone that says they will do any work actually does – and those that do the least are very often those that talk and promise the most! Conversely, those that do the most are usually those that ask intelligent questions (on an on-going basis) and then just quietly get on with it.

Question: If you wanted to learn to play the piano would you go to your local mechanic and ask him to teach you, or would you find a piano teacher that can play the piano themselves? You wouldn’t go to the piano teacher to fix your brakes either would you?

The point is if you want to learn how to build a large Multi Level (or Network) Marketing business it makes total sense to join with someone that is consistently building their own business and is therefore qualified to show you how to do the same. You will be very hard pressed to find anyone else that has consistently sponsored fifty per year every year for as long as we have. (There are some, but not many!) Also, having been at it for as long as we have, we have experience of all the old traditional methods and the newer methods of marketing on-line and we know what works and what doesn’t. I also know what used to work but doesn’t anymore.

If your sponsor doesn’t offer the leadership that you need to grow your business, they should be glad that you have gone upline of them to get the help that you need (unless they have an ego problem!)

We know that not everyone will find active leadership by looking upline and if that is the case we think you have two options: 1. Use the generic training that is available andbecome the leader that you seek or 2. Reconsider your position. Are you in the right opportunity with the right leadership? If not, consider your options carefully.

MLM Leaders

One of the key elements of success in any MLM (Multi Level Marketing) or Network Marketing business is to work with the MLM Leaders. Our upline are initially responsible for showing us the way. More experienced networkers will say that we are all responsible for our own destiny and I would totally agree with that. However, when we consider that many people joining an MLM business are from backgrounds where taking 100% responsibility is a totally foreign concept, it’s important in the early days to help new joiners to understand that they can seek help and guidance from wherever they can get it. True leaders will encourage their team to broaden their horizons seek guidance and inspiration from wherever they can get it, particularly from all of their upline leaders; not just the direct sponsor.

I find it alarming, the number of people that I speak to in all different networks that are without leadership that they can refer to, or perhaps I should say, they are unaware of the leadership that is available to them. With proper leadership, I believe everyone can go on to become a leader themselves, but without that leadership, very few will make it alone.

Our advice: only join an MLM business that has a proven system and genuine leadership.

Will it Make The Boat Go Faster?

A week or two back we had the privilege of attending an event that Ben Hunt-Davis was speaking at. Ben is an Olympic Gold Medallist from the rowing 8+ Team from Sydney 2000 and author of the book “Will it Make The Boat Go Faster?”

Amongst other things Ben now speaks at all sorts of events on the basic concept of focussing on a specific goal. In his case the goal was to win Gold and to do that they had to to focus on making the boat go faster.

The extent to which they focussed on this goal was demonstrated by their non-attendance of the Sydney Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. They asked themselves whether missing a meal and standing for 5 hours would make the boat go faster. It wouldn’t make the boat go faster, so they were prepared to sacrifice what would have been a hugely important event for any Olympic athlete. Being slightly less fatigued and better nourished may have been the slight edge that made all the difference. I guess attending the closing ceremony was all the sweeter with a Gold Medal around the neck!

How focussed are we on our goals? How clearly defined are our goals? Do we have a specific deadline? Are we prepared to make sacrifices?

Clearly to excel at anything, something has to give, and Ben’s book “Will it make the boat go faster?” is a brilliant explanation of his commitment, focus and subsequent rewards. It’s a gripping story and highly inspirational.

Total Freedom

We have just booked two weeks in the Caribbean in a beautiful beach front five star hotel. While we know how great it is to be able to take ourselves away on exotic holidays what we feel makes it all the more gratifying is that we have total freedom to go where we want, when we want and we don’t have to ask anyone for permission. DSA Award of Excellence

In our last blog post we explained our view that being in at the start of a new network really is not necessary to be successful and indeed, for most people would actually be a disadvantage. Well. last Thursday our view on this was further supported at the UK DSA awards evening when the fantastic business that we work with, Kleeneze, was awarded the most coveted ”DSA Award of Excellence”.

We see this as a reflection of the “excellence” of the network, the staff, the management, the directors and everything that Kleeneze stands for. You could say “Kleeneze is the best, and that’s official!”

Kleeneze has stood the test of time and is very proud of this award and indeed proud to have been a founding member of the UK DSA many years ago.

Get in at the start

In our 12 years in MLM we have seen so many new start-ups we’ve lost count. We have had so many phone calls and emails saying things like ” We are in pre-launch; get in at the start” blah blah blah. Here are my thoughts on all these offers:-

1. Most of these opportunities are coming to the UK from the USA and we have seen time and again how the USA culture and way of doing business often does not transfer successfully to the UK or Europe in general.

2. Because of 1. above, after a short time these companies that arrived in a blaze of glory soon fade away or withdraw from the UK altogether.

3. A minority of these companies and their method of operation is illegal.

4. If they are new, they can’t be proven; certainly not in the UK/Europe

5. If they are new they won’t have a full support infrastructure in place.

6. If they are new they won’t have UK/Europe leadership in place.

7. Most telling of all is that most people that have approached us to join their “Get in at the start” opportunity have done so more than once; with different opportunities. First they’re pitching us on one opportunity and then a year or two later they are pitching us on something else. What does that tell you?

Having said all this we understand that there will be legitimate companies expending into the UK and we also understand that very occasionally someone will have got involved with an MLM company that just isn’t right for them and they need to move on. However, it’s also our observation that the vast majority of people that move from one opportunity to another do so in search of the MLM holy grail. We firmly believe however that success comes from within ourselves; not just from joining the latest new opportunity to come our way.

Our recommendation is to find an MLM that is well established, has a comprehensivesupport system in place, has good leadership and has genuine customers that are themselves nothing to do with the network. We understand that our opportunity is not for everybody but we also strongly suggest that in most cases the latest “get in at the start” opportunity is not the one to go for.
